As expected, Braves right-hander Brandon Beachy will undergo Tommy John surgery on Friday, the Braves announced. The procedure will be performed by Dr. ElAttrache in Los Angeles.

Beachy, 27, left a start with what was originally called biceps tightness two weeks ago. Tests showed damage to his elbow ligament and a second opinion confirmed the diagnosis. This will be his second Tommy John procedure. He has his first in June 2012.

In seven starts last season, Beachy went 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA (87 ERA+) and a 5.75 K/BB in 30 innings. He missed the first half of the season while rehabbing from his first Tommy John surgery.

The Braves lost right-hander Kris Medlen to his second Tommy John surgery earlier this week. The team recently signed Ervin Santana to a one-year contract to help replace the pitching depth.
