Shortstop and top Astros prospect Carlos Correa appears to have avoided serious injury after taking a Tyler Cippard pitch to the left hand on Wednesday night. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports x-rays were negative and that Correa is sore, but otherwise okay. You can see the play right here.
Correa, 19, was the first overall pick in the 2012 draft. He hit .320/.405/.467 with 33 doubles and nine home runs in 117 games for the team's Low Class-A affiliate this season. He'd gone 6-for-28 (.214) with two homers in 15 Spring Training games before getting hurt.
Baseball America ranked Correa as the seventh best prospect in baseball last month. He was reassigned to minor league camp along with several of the team's other top prospects on Thursday.
