Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin will begin the 2014 season on the disabled list, the club announced Saturday. Quentin has apparently been dealing with a left knee issue, though it wasn't really reported much until Friday.

With Quentin joining Cameron Maybin on the DL to open the season, the Padres appear set to have Chris Denorfia, Will Venable and Seth Smith as their Opening Day outfield, from left to right.

In 82 games last season, Quentin hit .275/.363/.493 (145 OPS+) with 21 doubles, 13 homers and 44 RBI. When he's on the field, he's a very productive hitter, sporting a career 122 OPS+ with 162-game averages of 31 homers and 98 RBI. Of course, staying on the field is a major problem with the 31 year old.

This marks the seventh trip to the disabled list of Quentin's career. He's only managed at least 100 games in a season three times and has never played more than 131.
