Rangers ace Yu Darvish began the season on the disabled list with a neck injury and Tuesday came through a bullpen session with what has to be considered pretty great news.

Via a Rangers press release, here's the low down:

Pitcher Yu Darvish continued his throwing program on Tuesday with an 86-pitch bullpen session at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Working with pitching coach Mike Maddux, Darvish did a simulated session that was the equivalent of four innings.

Darvish felt strong and experienced no physical issues. He will be re-evaluated on Wednesday to determine the next course of action.

Darvish is on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, so he's eligible to come off the DL April 5.

Darvish, 27, was 13-9 with a 2.83 ERA (145 ERA+), 1.07 WHIP and MLB-best 277 strikeouts last season. With Derek Holland and Matt Harrison also on the DL, the Rangers opened the season with Tanner Scheppers, Martin Perez, Robbie Ross and Joe Saunders as their rotation.
