Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos left Monday's opener with an injury to his left hand, and washingtonpost.com is reporting that he'll need hamate bone surgery to fix the issue. With a recovery timetable of four to eight weeks, this is a big blow for the Nationals.

Ramos has unfortunately dealt with injuries throughout his big-league career, most notably with a torn ACL in 2012. He only managed 78 games last season after his return, as hamstring injuries were a problem. He hit .272/.307/.470 (111 OPS+) with 16 homers and 59 RBI in those 78 games, so he had a solid season.

With Ramos out, the Nationals will have Jose Lobaton as the everyday catcher with Sandy Leon likely getting the call from the minors to serve as the backup.
