The Mets have placed outfielder Chris Young on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right quad muscle. Young initially suffered the injury toward the end of a productive spring training. He missed Opening Day and was forced to leave Wednesday's game against the Nationals after just one inning.

"I don't think it's anything severe," manager Terry Collins said (source: ESPN New York). "I do believe he caught it in time. He just said it grabbed on him. I mean, he could jog off the field. He didn't have to come out immediately. So I don't think it's going to last more than that."

Young, who was signed to a one-year, $7.25-million contract this offseason, is coming off a 2013 campaign in which be batted .200/.280/.379 (85 OPS+) for the Athletics. For his career, Young owns an OPS+ of 94 across parts of nine major-league seasons. He also contributes value on the bases and with a plus glove in the outfield.

The Mets have filled Young's roster spot by activating second baseman Daniel Murphy from the paternity list.
