Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was forced to depart Friday night's game against the Blue Jays because of a strained right hamstring. Teixeira sustained the injury while pursuing a foul ball in the second inning.

The 34-year-old Teixeira of course is coming off a 2013 season in which he was limited to just 15 games because of a wrist injury and subsequent wrist surgery. Regarding his current malady, it's worth noting that Teixeira has had serious right hamstring concerns before ...

The severity of the injury he suffered Friday night isn't yet known, but after the game Hoch tweeted that Teixeira said he's "not super optimistic" about his hamstring. He'll undergo an MRI on Monday.

Given the Yankees' already dubious infield situation, this isn't good news.
