Rays left-hander Matt Moore left a start with an elbow injury earlier this week, and tests later revealed a partially torn ulner collateral ligament. Understandably, Moore hopes to avoid Tommy John surgery, so he will wait a few more days before making a decision:

The rehab route rarely seems to work in these cases -- Matt Harvey tried it last September, for example -- but there is no harm in trying given the alternative. If Moore puts the surgery off too long, however, he could jeopardize his 2015 season.

Moore, 24, went 17-4 with a 3.29 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 143 strikeouts in 150 1/3 innings last season. He is 0-2 so far this year, but has a 2.70 ERA.

The Rays have not yet announced who will replace Moore in the rotation.
