Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak has received a two-year contract extension, the club announced Saturday. This is the second consecutive season in which Mozeliak has gotten an extension and he was previously locked up through the 2016 season -- so now he's signed up through 2018.

Mozeliak, 45, has been Cardinals GM since Walt Jocketty departed following the 2007 season. Under his watch, the Cardinals have been to the playoffs four of the last five seasons -- a span that includes two trips to the World Series and one World Series championship.

Mozeliak began his career with the Colorado Rockies in 1993 under assistant GM Jocketty and came to St. Louis when Jocketty was hired as GM in 1995. Mozeliak became the assistant scouting director in 1998 and the head scouting director in 1999. In 2001, he was promoted to director of baseball operations and in 2003 was named assistant general manager.
