Nationals center fielder Denard Span has been placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list, the club announced Saturday. As a corresponding move, they've recalled outfielder Steven Souza from Triple-A Syracuse.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first instance of a head injury with Span. He missed 84 games in two different DL stints in 2011 due to concussion issues.
Span, 30, is hitting .222/.300/.361 with three doubles, a triple, four RBI and five runs so far this season.
Without Span, the Nationals will likely use Nate McLouth as the everyday starter in center.
