The Blue Jays have been without shortstop Jose Reyes just about all season. He hurt his hamstring in literally the first inning of their first game, and soon thereafter was placed on the 15-day DL. Reyes is now close to rejoining the team, however.

Reyes, 30, has battled all sorts of hamstring problems over the years, including missing most of the 2009 season with a severely strained hamstring tendon. He missed close to three months last summer with an ankle injury.

In 95 games last season, Reyes hit .269/.353/.427 (113 OPS+) with 10 home runs and 15 stolen bases. He is now in the third year of the six-year, $106 million contract he signed with the Marlins during the 2011-12 offseason.

In other news, Kennedy reports Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen is not particularly close to returning. He was scheduled to throw 25 pitches today and is taking things day by day.
