UPDATE: The Red Sox announced that Napoli suffered a dislocated finger. X-rays were negative. No word on when he will return to the field.

The injuries are really beginning to mount for the Red Sox. The team is currently without Shane Victorino (hamstring) and Will Middlebrooks (calf), plus Dustin Pedroia (wrist) is still day-to-day after receiving a cortisone shot.

On Tuesday night, first baseman Mike Napoli left the team's game against the White Sox with an apparent finger injury after sliding into second base. Fingers are not supposed to bend like this:

Ouch. That doesn't look right at all.

Napoli, 32, came into Tuesday's game hitting .300/.386/.520 (153 OPS+) with three home runs in 13 games. The team is struggling to score runs and he is one of the few Red Sox players who has hit so far this season.

Losing Napoli for any length of time would be a real big blow to Boston since he is their top right-handed power threat. He complements the lefty David Ortiz wonderfully.

The Red Sox have not yet released an update on Napoli's condition.
