Tax day is in the rear-view mirror, but the 2014 MLB season is just beginning. We still have another five and a half months to go, then it's time for the postseason. Here is a recap of Tuesday's news from around the league.

RUMORS & SPECULATION

Padres: Offered 3B Chase Headley a three-year extension in the $33 million to $39 million range. The offer was nowhere close to what Headley is seeking. He will be a free agent after the season. (Jon Heyman)

ROSTER MOVES

Astros: Planning to call up top prospect OF George Springer on Wednesday. OF Robbie Grossman has been sent down and RHP Lucas Harrell will be designated for assignment in corresponding moves.

Blue Jays: Called up IF Munenori Kawasaki, the club announced. RHP Marcus Walden was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Dodgers: Activated RHP Brian Wilson (elbow) off the 15-day DL, the team announced. LHP Paco Rodriguez was sent to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Indians: Activated OF Michael Bourn (hamstring) off the 15-day DL. OF Nyjer Morgan was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Mets: OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis was recalled from Triple-A, the team announced.

Phillies: RHP Mike Adams (shoulder) was activated off the 15-day DL, the team announced. RHP Luis Garcia was sent to the minors in a corresponding move.

Yankees: Recalled C John Ryan Murphy and IF Scott Sizemore from Triple-A, the team announced. RHP Shane Greene was sent to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

INJURY UPDATES

Angels: RHP Dane De La Rosa was placed on the 15-day DL with shoulder inflammation, the team announced. He was optioned to Triple-A on Monday, but that was voided ... OF Kole Calhoun left Tuesday's game with a right ankle injury and will be placed on the DL. (Los Angeles Times)

Blue Jays: SS Jose Reyes (hamstring) is in line to rejoin the team on Friday ... DH Adam Lind is day-to-day with lower back tightness, according to the club.

Braves: RHP Craig Kimbrel (shoulder) played catch and is still day-to-day. (MLB.com)

Cardinals: Activated 2B Mark Ellis from the 15-day DL and assigned IF Pete Kozma to Triple-A, the club announced.

Dodgers: LHP Clayton Kershaw (back) threw a 26-pitch bullpen session and showed his best velocity since getting hurt (MLB.com) .. RHP Chad Billingsley (Tommy John surgery) was sent for an MRI after cutting a bullpen session short due to discomfort. (Orange County Register)

Giants: Manager Bruce Bochy confirmed IF Marco Scutaro (back) is not close to returning to the team (San Francisco Chronicle) ... LHP Jeremy Affeldt (knee) will be activated off the DL on Wednesday. (San Francisco Chronicle)

Indians: DH Jason Giambi (rib) is in line to be activated off the DL on Friday. (MLB.com)

Mariners: RHP Taijuan Walker was scratched from his scheduled Triple-A rehab start with what was called "arm stiffness" ... RHP Hisashi Iwakuma (finger) threw a 51-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday and will throw a simulated game on Friday. (710 AM ESPN Seattle)

Mets: OF Juan Lagares (oblique) was placed on the 15-day DL, the team announced ... RHP Jenrry Mejia left Tuesday's start with a blister, the team announced ... RHP Curtis Granderson (ribs) is day-to-day after crashing into the outfield wall on Monday. X-rays were negative (MLB.com) ... RHP Bartolo Colon has a minor back problem according to GM Sandy Alderson, but he is expected to make his next start.

Nationals: Manager Matt Williams said OF Denard Span (concussion) could play in minor league rehab games later this week. (Washington Post)

Orioles: 3B Manny Machado (knee) ran sprints again and could be cleared to play in minor league rehab games by the weekend (MASN sports) ... OF Adam Jones (illness) is expected to return to the lineup in a day or two. (MASN Sports)

Padres: RHP Josh Johnson (elbow) will see Dr. James Andrews soon and there is some concern he will need his second Tommy John surgery ... SS Everth Cabrera was scratched from Tuesday's game with a sore knee. It is unclear how long he will be sidelined. (Bob Scanlan)

Rangers: LHP Joe Saunders (ankle) threw a successful bullpen session. (MLB.com)

Red Sox: 1B Mike Napoli (dislocated finger) is day-to-day ... RHP Koji Uehara (shoulder) is likely to be available on Thursday (CSN Boston) ... 2B Dustin Pedroia (wrist) received a cortisone shot and is expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday. (ESPN Boston)

Royals: LHP Tim Collins (elbow) and LHP Francisley Bueno (finger) both resumed throwing on Tuesday. (Kansas City Star)

Twins: OF Oswaldo Arcia (wrist) received a cortisone shot and hopes to be activated off the DL when eligible. (St. Paul Pioneer Press)

White Sox: OF Avisail Garcia had successful surgery to repair his labrum and a fracture in his shoulder. He is out for the remainder of the season. (ESPN Chicago)

MISCELLANY

Cubs: Recently retired outfielder Darnell McDonald has joined the team's baseball operations department, it was announced.

Diamondbacks: GM Kevin Towers said the team will not call up top prospect RHP Archie Bradley despite their slow start. (Fox Sports)

Red Sox: Manager John Farrell was fined for his negative comments about the new replay system.

White Sox: Manager Robin Ventura said RHP Matt Lindstrom will remain the team's closer even though he's been struggling. (MLB.com)
