I'm pretty sure a position player pitched for the first time this season on Wednesday night, but don't hold me to that. White Sox utility infielder Leury Garcia was the tough luck loser in extra-innings against the Red Sox, allowing two runs to give him a career 18.00 ERA. Rough.

Anyway, another day is in the books, so here is a recap of Wednesday's baseball news.

Athletics: Claimed RHP Marcus Walden off waivers from the Blue Jays, the team announced.

Giants: Released LHP Dontrelle Willis from their Triple-A roster, the team announced. He recently suffered a serious arm injury.

Mariners: Called up IF Nick Franklin, who might see time in the outfield.

Mets: Called up RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka from Triple-A and outrighted LHP John Lannan.

Angels: OF Kole Calhoun will miss 4-6 weeks with a bad ligament sprain in his right ankle.

Braves: RHP Craig Kimbrel (shoulder) reported no discomfort during a bullpen session.

Cardinals: RHP Joe Kelly left Wednesday's start with an apparent hamstring injury.

Dodgers: X-rays were negative after SS Hanley Ramirez was hit by a pitch in his left hand ... RHP Chad Billingsley (Tommy John surgery) is dealing with tendinitis. (Los Angeles Times)

Giants: SS Brandon Crawford is day-to-day with a tightness in his right hamstring. (San Francisco Chronicle)

Mariners: RHP Taijuan Walker has a right shoulder impingement and will be shut down for two weeks.

Nationals: OF Bryce Harper was scratched from Wednesday's game with quad tightness. He is day-to-day (Washington Post) ... OF Denard Span (concussion) could rejoin the team on Sunday. (MASN Sports)

Orioles: 3B Manny Machado (knee) ran the bases for the first time and reported no problems. (Baltimore Sun)

Padres: 3B Chase Headley is day-to-day with a right biceps strain. (San Diego Union-Tribune)

Pirates: OF Jose Tabata left Wednesday's game with concussion symptoms after making a great catch.

Rangers: LHP Joe Saunders (ankle) still feels pain and will be shut down for a few days. (Fox Sports Southwest)

Red Sox: RHP Koji Uehara (shoulder) threw a 34-pitch bullpen session and reported no problems. He is expected to be available on Thursday. (Providence Journal)

Reds: LHP Aroldis Chapman could throw live batting practice soon, according to manager Bryan Price. (Cincinnati Enquirer)

Royals: LHP Bruce Chen has been scratched from Thursday's start with a tight glute. RHP James Shields will start in his place. (Kansas City Star)

White Sox: RHP Nate Jones (back) is not yet ready to resume baseball activities. (MLB.com)

Diamondbacks: President Derrick Hall said it is too early to assign blame for the team's rough start to the season.

Mariners: GM Jack Zduriencik said the team offered DH Kendrys Morales a three-year, $30 million contract following last summer's All-Star break.

Mets: Despite his shakiness, manager Terry Collins told reporters RHP Jose Valverde will remain the team's closer.
