Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen was expected to re-join the ballclub within the next week or so, but instead he's suffered a setback and won't throw for a few days.

“It's just not right. It's not like he's a lot worse but he doesn't feel quite comfortable enough yet to start really cutting it loose,” manager John Gibbons said (torontosun.com). “He's going to take a few days off. It's not completely out of there to where he feels comfortable.”

Janssen is dealing with lower back pain on his left side, this coming after he had some shoulder soreness in spring training, too. He opened the season on the DL, and that's where he'll remain for a bit -- though, from the sounds of Gibbons' comments, it doesn't sound serious at all.

In Janssen's stead, the Blue Jays have fared well in the late innings. They have yet to blow a save while Sergio Santos (four saves, 3.38 ERA, 11 K in 5 1/3 innings), Brett Cecil (one save, 0.00 ERA, 10 K in six innings) and Steve Delabar (3.38 ERA) have done some good work.

Janssen, 32, converted 34 of his 36 save chances (94 percent) last season with a 2.56 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 50 strikeouts in 52 2/3 innings. Once he is able to come back healthy, it appears the Jays will have a very solid bullpen.
