A trio of NL clubs welcomed players back from the DL on Saturday. Lefty Sean Marshall (Reds), center fielder Denard Span (Nationals) and catcher Chris Stewart (Pirates) were all activated.

Marshall, 31, started the season on the DL with a shoulder issue. He had a similar problem last year and was limited to 10 1/3 innings. In his last full season (2012), Marshall had a 2.26 ERA in 75 2/3 innings for Cincinnati. To clear room on the roster, righty Curtis Partch was sent to Triple-A.

Span, 30, was on the 7-day concussion DL. He had gone 8-for-36 (.222) with three doubles and one home run in 10 games before getting hurt. Span hit .297/.327/.380 in 153 games in 2013. Outfielder Steven Souza was sent to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

The 32-year-old Stewart had minor knee surgery near the end of spring training. He came over in an offseason trade with the Yankees after hitting .211/.293/.272 in 109 games a year ago. Catcher Tony Sanchez was assigned to Triple-A to clear a roster spot.
