Angels first baseman Albert Pujols is one step closer to joining the 500 home run club. He swatted his 498th career homer on Saturday afternoon, taking Tigers closer Joe Nathan deep for a solo shot in the ninth inning of their 5-2 loss to Detroit.

Pujols, 34, hit his 497th career home run on Friday, so that's two homers in two days. He could hit that historic 500th blast any day now. Pujols hit 445 of his 498 home runs with the Cardinals. The other 53 have come with the Halos.

In 17 games this season, Pujols is hitting .282/.354/.606 with six homers. He played only 99 games last season due to knee and foot problems. Pujols is under contract through 2021 and he has a pretty good chance at 600+ career homers, nevermind 500.
