Yankees starting pitcher Ivan Nova had an MRI Saturday night and it revealed a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament, the Yankees have announced. The club further announced that Nova has been placed on the 15-day disabled list and he'll return to New York for futher evaluation by team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad.

If completely torn, the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) is the one in the elbow that requires Tommy John surgery to repair. Nova isn't slated to take that step just yet, but it won't be surprising if he is forced to do so.

Nova, 27, is 2-2 with an 8.27 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and 12 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings so far this season.

The Yankees haven't announced a rotation replacement for Nova just yet, but Vidal Nuno is a good bet.
