The White Sox will place ace Chris Sale on the disabled list because of a flexor strain. According to Doug Padilla of ESPN Chicago, an MRI showed no structural damage in Sale's left elbow.

Sale, 25, is 3-0 with a 2.31 ERA (185 ERA+) and a 0.84 WHIP in four starts and 27 1/3 innings this season. He went 11-14 with a 3.07 ERA (140 ERA+) in 214 1/3 innings last year and finished fifth in the AL Cy Young voting. Sale has been a legitimate All-Star and Cy Young candidate since moving into the rotation full-time in 2012.

Shoulder fatigue and inflammation have bothered Sale in each of the last two years, though never in April.

The just called up Andre Rienzo is the leading candidate to make the start on Tuesday against Justin Verlander and the Tigers.
