Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw has been limited to only one start this season -- against the Diamondbacks back on March 22 -- because of a back injury. Now, he's ready to take the first big step in his recovery. Manager Don Mattingly on Wednesday said that Kershaw will make a minor-league rehab start for High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday. MLB.com's Ken Gurnick tweets that, per Mattingly, Kershaw will make more than one rehab start.

Kershaw gave up one run and struck out seven against only one walk in that start against Arizona. Last season, Kershaw of course won the NL Cy Young on the strength of his MLB-leading 1.83 ERA.

Regarding his back injury, Kershaw is reported to be aiming for an early May return to the Dodger rotation.
