Friday was a busy day of baseball now that the weather has cleared up on the East Coast. Here is a recap of the day's news.


Orioles: Continue to have interest in 1B/DH Kendrys Morales, but there is a gap in contract talks. (Jon Heyman)

Padres: Signed Cuban RHP Odrisamer Despaigne to a minor league contract, the team announced. The deal is worth $1 million at the MLB level.

Tigers: Signed RHP Joel Hanrahan to a one-year deal worth $1 million guaranteed, the team announced. He can earn another $2 million through incentives.


Angels: 3B David Freese left Friday's game with a finger contusion after being hit by a pitch.

Astros: RHP Scott Feldman (biceps) will pitch in a simulated game on Sunday. (Houston Chronicle)

Braves: Planning to activate RHP Gavin Floyd (Tommy John surgery) from the DL on Sunday. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

Brewers: RHP Matt Garza (thumb) threw a successful bullpen session and has been cleared to make his next start on Monday, according to multiple reports ... RHP Jim Henderson was placed on the 15-day DL with shoulder inflammation.

Cubs: OF Ryan Sweeney will have an MRI on his right hamstring after leaving Friday's game. (

Dodgers: LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu was placed on the 15-day DL with shoulder inflammation.

Indians: 2B Jason Kipnis was placed on the 15-day DL with an oblique injury.

Orioles: Top prospect RHP Kevin Gausman was placed on the minor league DL with focal pneumonia. (

Nationals: RHP Doug Fister (lat) threw 76 pitches in his final minor league rehab start. He is expected to join the team on Wednesday. (CSN Washington)

Padres: 3B Chase Headley (calf) has already resumed full baseball activities and is expected to be activated off the DL when eligible on May 10 (San Diego Union Tribune) ... OF Carlos Quentin (knee) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday. (

Rangers: C Robinson Chirinos was scratched from Friday's game with a stomach virus. He is expected to return sometime this weekend (Dallas Morning News) ...
