Here is a recap of Sunday's baseball news now that another week of games is in the books.


RHP Jair Jurrjens: Looking to make a comeback after having knee surgery last fall. (Jon Heyman)

Astros: Designated LHP Raul Valdes for assignment, the team announced. LHP Darin Downs was called up in a corresponding move.

Athletics: Claimed OF Nick Buss off waivers from the Dodgers, the team announced. He was optioned to Triple-A.

Mariners: Optioned OF Abe Almonte to Triple-A, the team announced. They are expected to recall OF James Jones prior to their next game.

Rays: Designated RHP Heath Bell for assignment and called up RHP Nate Karns.


Astros: RHP Scott Feldman (biceps) will return to the rotation on Friday (Houston Chronicle).

Athletics: OF Yoenis Cespedes may not play on Monday due to a nagging left hamstring issue, manager Bob Melvin announced ... OF Josh Reddick is day-to-day with a sprained left ankle. (MLB.com)

Blue Jays: C Dioner Navarro (quad) is not likely to play before the team's road trip ends on Wednesday. (SportsNet)

Braves: Activated RHP Gavin Floyd (Tommy John surgery) off the DL. He will start on Tuesday in place of RHP Ervin Santana, who as a bruised thumb.

Cardinals: LHP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) had to leave his minor league rehab start after being hit by a pitch. It's unclear where the pitch hit him or if he will miss any time.

Cubs: OF Ryan Sweeney (hamstring) is likely to miss 3-4 weeks. (Chicago Sun-Times)

Diamondbacks: OF A.J. Pollock (groin) missed his fourth straight game. The team is hopeful he will be able to play on Monday. (Arizona Republic)

Dodgers: OF Yasiel Puig got his "bell rung" by running into the outfield wall. He passed a concussion test and is officially listed as day-to-day ... LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) will be looked at by Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday and may have an MRI. (Jon Heyman)

Giants: Placed RHP Matt Cain on the 15-day DL with a cut finger.

Mets: OF Eric Young Jr. has a bruised cheek bone after being hit in the face by a ball that ricocheted off the cage during batting practice, the team announced. He passed a concussion test.

Nationals: RHP Doug Fister (lat) will make his season debut on Friday, the team announced.

Orioles: 1B Chris Davis (oblique) took some ground balls and may swing a bat in the coming days. (Baltimore Sun)

Padres: 3B Chase Headley (calf) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Monday (San Diego Union-Tribune) ... RHP Casey Kelly (Tommy John surgery) made his first minor league rehab start on Sunday.

Reds: OF Jay Bruce needs surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus in his left knee and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

Red Sox: 1B Mike Napoli is still feeling discomfort in the finger he dislocated last week, manager John Farrell confirmed.

Rockies: Placed C Wilin Rosario on the 15-day DL with a viral infection, the team announced.

Royals: C Salvador Perez (shin) is day-to-day after being hit by a foul tip. (Kansas City Star)

Twins: 1B Joe Mauer left Sunday's game with back spasms but hopes to play Monday (MLB.com) ... Top prospect OF Byron Buxton (wrist) was activated off the minor league DL.


Diamondbacks: GM Kevin Towers is unsure about his job security in the wake of the team's poor performance.

Mets: Manager Terry Collins confirmed RHP Kyle Farnsworth will remain the team's closer despite Saturday's blown save.
