White Sox ace Chris Sale threw a 40-pitch bullpen session on Monday, GM Rich Hahn confirmed. The lefty is currently on the disabled list with a flexor strain in his elbow.

Sale, 25, is still a few weeks away from beginning a minor league rehab assignment, according to Hahn. He hopes the rehab stint can begin within two weeks. Obviously the team will be very careful with their prized southpaw.

In four starts and 27 1/3 innings this year, Sale has a 2.30 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP. He has gone 31-22 with a 3.01 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP in 433 2/3 innings since moving into the rotation for the start of the 2012 season.

Flexor strains have a way of turning into Tommy John surgery, but Sale seems to be healing well. He missed some time with shoulder tendinitis last season but has otherwise not had any serious arm problems in his career.
