The Jackson State University baseball team lost most of its equipment and luggage in a bus fire along I-20/59 in Alabama on Monday, according to Mike D. Smith of the Birmingham News. Most importantly, no one was injured.

"We are relieved that everyone is safe. We appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers," said school president Carolyn W. Meyers in a statement. "The university will conduct its own exhaustive investigation into this unfortunate incident."

Here's more on the incident from Smith:

Brian Anslow, of Bessemer, was driving westbound on I-20/59 when he saw a rear tire on the bus on fire.

"The players went up the hill to get away from the fire," Anslow said.

Anslow made a U-turn and went to the scene to help. In minutes, there were about six small explosions and one larger explosion as the fire raged, he said.

It's unclear what caused the fire.

The team was en route to Georgia for a Tuesday game against Savannah State. The game has been cancelled and the team is returning home to Jackson, Miss.
