Like everyone else, I've joked about releasing a player in the middle of a game when he's performing poorly. Who hasn't? It's what fans do.
Mariners released Tacoma RHP Mark Rogers. He started yesterday's game which was suspended & will be finished today. Released during game?— Mike Curto (@CurtoWorld) May 5, 2014
Okay, so it wasn't in the middle of a game that was actually being played, but still. He was released in the middle of a game.
Rogers, 28, is not just some random warm body minor leaguer either. He was the fifth overall pick in the 2004 draft by the Brewers, but arm problems derailed his once promising career. Rogers does have 49 innings of MLB service to his credit. Now he can say he was released in the middle of a game, though I'm not sure that is something to brag about.
Here's the box score of the game, if you're interested.
