VIDEO: Nolan Arenado extends hitting streak on 'stupid' homer

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer

Dayn Perry: Arenado is an emerging star

Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado is turning some heads this year, and we can add the noggin of Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos to that list.

After Arenado homered off Rangers starting pitcher Martin Perez Monday night -- extending Arenado's MLB-best hitting streak to 25 games -- Chirinos had this to say, via dallasnews.com:

“To see that pitch [to Arenado] and the location and see where landed, it's almost stupid,” Chirinos said. “That a ball could be that far inside and he could it out.”

Let's see what Mr. Chirinos is talking about:

Yes, that's pretty impressive. That's at the knees and way inside at 93 m.p.h. and Arenado turned it around to hit it 400 feet (per Home Run Tracker) and keep it fair -- which is probably the most impressive part. Here's just how far inside that ball was, from a behind-the-plate point of view, courtesy of Brooks Baseball:

As the color coding shows, that light blue plot that appears around an entire foot inside on Arenado is the pitch he parked with seeming ease.

I'll agree with Chirinos. That is stupid good.

As the season progresses, expect the 23-year-old Arenado to continue turning heads. He's hitting .313/.336/.515 with nine doubles, six homers and 22 RBI heading into Tuesday's action.
