The Reds on Saturday activated closer Aroldis Chapman from the disabled list. To make room on the active roster, they optioned right-hander Curtis Partch back to Triple-A Louisville.

Chapman, of course, has been sidelined since late spring training, when he was struck in the face by a line drive. He subsequently underwent surgery to treat facial fractures.

The 26-year-old lefty has been a dominant reliever throughout his three-plus seasons in the majors: 2.40 ERA, 77 saves in 90 opportunities (save percentage of 85.6) and 324 strikeouts in 198 2/3 innings.

Needless to say, Chapman figures to improve a Reds bullpen that presently ranks 14th in the NL in relief ERA.
