With CC Sabathia having joined Michael Pineda and Ivan Nova on the disabled list, the Yankees have a hole in their rotation starting Thursday. They will fill said hole with prospect Chase Whitley, reports Jon Heyman of

Whitley, 24, entered this season with just eight career starts in 144 minor-league appearances. This season, though, he's appeared in seven games and started six of them -- all for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Whitley is 3-2 with a 2.39 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 32 strikeouts against only seven walks in 26 1/3 innings.

The good start to the season is turning some heads in the scouting community, though Whitley has never been a hyped prospect by any stretch. He was a 15th rounder out of Troy University in 2010 and has made his way up the ladder without ever having made one of those top-100 prospects lists the Internet so loves.

Still, at least for the time being, Whitley joins Vidal Nuno and David Phelps behind Masahiro Tanaka and Hiroki Kuroda in the Yankees' rotation.
