Yankees lefty CC Sabathia saw Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday regarding his ailing right knee. The good news is that Sabathia does not have any meniscus damage. Here's the bad news from the mouth of GM Brian Cashman (via George A. King III of the New York Post):

"There are degenerative changes in his knee. He is going to receive an injection of cortisone and stem cell to try and deal with this. That's the protocol when you see degenerative. The knee is stable but he does have degenerative changes. What does that mean? He has cartilage breakdown. We have current players and past players that have dealt with this."

Developing, it would seem. Sabathia is presently on the 15-day DL.

This season, Sabathia has pitched to a 5.28 ERA after eight starts. However, he's also logged a strong 4.80 K/BB ratio over that same span. Sabathia was below his usual standards in 2013, as well. In 2012, though, Sabathia posted an ERA+ of 125 in 200 innings of work. He has 208 career wins to his credit.
