The Dodgers were embarrassed by the Marlins last night in Los Angeles by the count of 13-3. The damage came so early -- the Marlins were up 12-0 through four innings -- that the Dodgers had to exhaust far more pitchers than they would have liked.

And we know the road this story heads down ...

Position player on the pitcher's mound!

Catcher Drew Butera got the nod and he actually dominated. Here it is:

The wily (yes, we're going with wily) right-hander averaged 86.2 miles per hour with his heater. Here's his velocity graph, courtesy of the awesome brooksbaseball.net:

Well, hello, late jump. That's right, Butera's last pitch was 95 miles per hour -- the second pitch of his that topped 90.

He also threw eight of his 11 pitches for strikes in his 1-2-3 inning. Now that is how you mop up, people.

Butera has now thrown two innings in his career. His small-sample numbers: 0.00 ERA, 0.50 WHIP and 9.0 K/9.

Rock on, Drew.
