The Reds have had a pretty rough year when it comes to injuries, and it initially appeared things were about to get worse.

All-Star first baseman Joey Votto didn't make the trip with the team to Philadelphia for a weekend series, as he is got an MRI on his left knee.

The left knee would be the same one that Votto needed to have surgery on to repair torn meniscus in 2012. He missed 48 games as a result. But here's where we'll update things, because the MRI revealed no structural damage, the Reds told reporters:

So it's still possible Votto goes on the DL eventually, but he may avoid a trip there.

Votto, 30, is hitting .257/.410/.449 (137 OPS+) with eight doubles, six homers, 12 RBI and 19 runs this season. If he needs to join the disabled list, he'd join fellow lefty power hitter Jay Bruce. With those two down, the middle of the Reds order isn't very imposing with Brandon Phillips, Todd Frazier and Ryan Ludwick being the top dogs.

If Votto does hit the DL, the Reds have a few options. They could just go with Neftali Soto or Brayan Pena at first base. They could also use Todd Frazier at first -- though he hasn't played there in a while -- while going with someone like Ramon Santiago or Chris Nelson at third. Needless to say, none of these options sounds even close to Votto at first and Frazier at third.
