Nationals left-hander Gio Gonzalez was clobbered for five runs in three innings on Saturday, six days after allowing seven runs in 4 1/3 innings. As a result, the team will send him for precautionary tests -- including an MRI -- on Sunday to make sure he is healthy, according to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post.

“You know, it's one of those things, you just got to keep grinding through,” said Gonzalez. “Just trying to find out what it is. Hopefully, something positive comes out of it. Other than that, just try to stay positive ... Realistically, (my) arm was dropping a lot. I guess we'll see.”

Manager Matt Williams said Gonzalez had some tightness in his shoulder earlier this year but he "can't put a finger" on his current health. Gio dealt with shoulder stiffness in 2009 but otherwise has been very durable throughout his career, throwing at least 195 innings in each of the last four seasons.

Gonzalez, 28, is now 3-4 with a 4.62 ERA on the season. His fastball averaged right around 93 mph on Saturday according to the PitchFX data at Brooks Baseball, which is right in line with the last few seasons.

The Mets beat the Nationals by the score of 5-2 on Saturday.
