Dodgers starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu will return to the rotation Wednesday, manager Don Mattingly told reporters Sunday (latimes.com). The lefty has been on the shelf since April 28 due to shoulder inflammation.

Ryu, 27, is 3-2 with a 3.00 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 31 strikeouts in 39 innings this season.

Getting Ryu back in the rotation is good news in and of itself for the Dodgers, but it's even better news when teamed with the health of Clayton Kershaw and Josh Beckett, because now the Dodgers can remove Paul Maholm from the rotation.

Due to the various injuries to the rotation, the Dodgers have needed seven starts from Maholm. In those starts, he's 1-4 with a 5.50 ERA and 1.78 WHIP. The club is 2-5 when he starts and 21-16 when he doesn't, heading into Sunday's action.
