White Sox closer Matt Lindstrom was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and the news got worse Wednesday. The right-hander will need to undergo surgery to repair a tear in the sheath of his left ankle Friday, the White Sox told reporters (Dan Hayes). The recovery timetable is three months.

Lindstrom, 34, had six saves in nine chances with a 3.32 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 11 strikeouts in 19 innings this season -- but he successfully converted his final five save chances.

With Lindstrom out, Ronald Belisario took over as closer and recorded the save Tuesday night, working the ninth against the Royals. It wasn't a perfect performance, as Belisario allowed two hits and a run, but he ultimately got the job done.
