Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts was forced to leave the marathon Red Sox-Rays game Saturday afternoon/evening due to a hamstring cramp that happened on a swing in the 11th inning, the club announced.
The news comes on the heels of the Red Sox placing Shane Victorino on the DL, not to mention that Mike Napoli (various injuries) and David Ortiz (sore calf) weren't in the starting lineup, either. Ortiz did pinch hit, so his issue isn't bad.
Bogaerts, 21, is hitting .279/.370/.406 with 10 doubles, three homers, nine RBI and 20 runs this season. With the signing of Stephen Drew, he'll be shifting to third base soon, assuming this hamstring cramp isn't a lingering issue moving forward.
