VIDEO: Rays beat Red Sox in 15 innings on throwing error

The Boston Red Sox have now lost nine straight games for the first time since 2001, and Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Rays seems to be a new low.

After scoring five runs in the first inning against Rays ace David Price, the Boston offense never struck again. The game lasted 15 innings. Take the final 14 innings and combine them with Friday night's 1-0 loss and then notice that the Red Sox didn't score in the final seven innings in Thursday's 7-2 loss to Toronto -- and it adds up to the Red Sox have been shut out for 30 of the last 31 innings.

And then the final gut-punch Saturday came in the 15th inning, when the Rays won on a walk-off throwing error. Here it is:

The defending champs are now 20-28 and in last place in the AL East, seven games out of first. The only teams in all of baseball with a worse record at the Astros, Cubs and Diamondbacks.
