The Giants have scratched right-hander Matt Cain from his scheduled Monday start against the Cubs, writes CSN Bay Area's Andrew Baggarly. Cain has been dealing with a hamstring strain that he suffered during his start last Wednesday. It's a grade-1 strain, so the Giants are hoping that Cain will be able to avoid a DL stint. Yusmeiro Petit will start in Cain's place on Monday.

This season, the 29-year-old Cain has pitched to a 3.66 ERA and 2.29 K/BB ratio after nine starts. He's coming off a disappointing 2013 (4.00 ERA in 184 1/3 innings), but he finished sixth in the NL Cy Young balloting in 2012 and owns a career ERA+ of 118.
