RUMORS & TRANSACTIONS

Blue Jays: Acquired OF Melky Mesa and RHP P.J. Walters from the Royals for cash considerations.

Cubs: The MLB Players' Association is concerned about their lack of spending ... Theo Epstein defended the Manny Ramirez signing and said it is "not a PR move at all."

Mets: Fired hitting coach Dave Hudgens and released RHP Jose Valverde following Monday's game.

INJURY UPDATES

Angels: OF Josh Hamilton (thumb) has a bone bruise that is unrelated to the surgery he had to repair a torn ligament. He is day-to-day. (MLB.com)

Dodgers: C A.J. Ellis suffered a severe ankle sprain while celebrating Josh Beckett's no-hitter on Sunday.

Mariners: LHP James Paxton (lat) is dealing with triceps tightness and will play catch on Tuesday. (MLB.com)

Mets: Top prospect RHP Noah Syndergaard was placed on the minor league disabled list with a "flexor pronator strain."

Nationals: 3B Ryan Zimmerman (thumb) has been cleared the resume swinging a bat and throwing, the team announced.

Padres: RHP Andrew Cashner (elbow) will play catch on Monday and throw a bullpen session on Tuesday. (San Diego Union-Tribune)

Royals: RHP Yordano Ventura left his start with "lateral elbow discomfort" and will undergo tests this week ... LHP Bruce Chen (back) felt good after a 25-pitch bullpen session. (MLB.com)

White Sox: 1B Jose Abreu (ankle) took ground balls, played catch and hit off a tee with no problems. (MLB.com)

Yankees: 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) is dealing with stiffness and is day-to-day, the team announced ... RHP Shawn Kelley (back) played catch from 75 feet and felt fine. (MLB.com)

MISCELLANY

2B Dee Gordon: Became the fastest player to 30 stolen bases in five years on Sunday.

OF Aaron Hicks: Will stop switch-hitting immediately because he has no confidence as a left-handed hitter.

OF Hunter Pence: Offering a signed bobblehead to whoever returns his stolen scooter.

Red Sox: Manager John Farrell was noncommittal when asked if RHP Clay Buchholz would make his next start. He walked eight in three innings on Monday. (Boston Globe)

NCAA: Oregon State was named the top seed for the NCAA baseball postseason.
