File this under "C" for curveball, because MLB just saw a young fireballer has an MRI to examine a troublesome elbow and it appears Tommy John surgery will be avoided.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore was on MLB Network Tuesday afternoon and said that 22-year-old phenom Yordano Ventura's MRI came back clean and the right-hander is only expected to miss one start.

So, Royals fans, you can breathe a giant sigh of relief.

Ventura needed to have the MRI after losing significant velocity Monday night and suffering from later elbow discomfort.

Ventura, 22, is 2-5 with a 3.45 ERA (121 ERA+), 1.26 WHIP and 59 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings this season. His numbers were much better before he took a beating Monday with the aforementioned velocity decrease (five runs on seven hits in just 2 2/3 innings).
