Angels lefty Sean Burnett, who had fought his way back from 2013 elbow surgery, has a torn UCL. The Angels announced the injury on Wednesday and placed Burnett on the 15-day DL. As we know all too well of late, the end result of a torn UCL is often Tommy John surgery, which would obviously end Burnett's season and cost him a good portion of 2015.

Burnett, 31, had pitched just 2/3 of an inning for the Angels this season. In 2013, he was limited to just 9 2/3 innings. For his career, he's pitched to an ERA of 3.53 (117 ERA+) and a K/BB ratio of 1.86 across parts of eight major-league seasons. The Angels have a $500,000 buyout on Burnett's $4.5-million club option for 2015, so he's almost certainly bound for free agency.

Burnett previously underwent Tommy John surgery in September of 2004.
