The Red Sox on Wednesday placed right-hander Clay Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list with a hyperextended left knee. As the Boston Globe notes, the team made the decision after Buchholz's Wednesday bullpen session.

This season, the 29-year-old has been one of MLB's worst starting pitchers: a 7.02 ERA, 1.63 K/BB ratio and 1.98 WHIP after 10 starts. He's also averaging only 5.0 innings per start. Buchholz for his career has pitched to a 3.82 ERA (114 ERA+) across parts of eight major-league seasons. This will be his sixth career trip to the DL.
