With another day of baseball in the books, it's time to recap the news from around the league. Here's everything you need to know from Thursday.


RHP Raciel Iglesias: The Cuban-born reliever will throw for scouts in Haiti on Friday.

Angels: GM Jerry Dipoto acknowledged being open to trading for a left-handed reliever after losing LHP Sean Burnett to Tommy John surgery earlier this week. (

Red Sox: President Larry Lucchino said the team plans to continue contract extension talks with free agent to be LHP Jon Lester. (

Athletics: RHP Ryan Cook (forearm) is aiming to begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend. (

Diamondbacks: OF Mark Trumbo (foot) took 50 swings off a tee for the second straight day and said "everything felt good." (

Dodgers: RHP Chris Withrow has a torn ulnar collateral ligament and Tommy John surgery has been recommended, the team announced.

Giants: Manager Bruce Bochy confimed RHP Matt Cain (hamstring) is not a lock to make his scheduled start this weekend. (San Francisco Chronicle)

Mariners: 2B Robinson Cano was scratched from Thursday's lineup with an illness and is day-to-day, the team announced.

Nationals: LHP Gio Gonzalez (shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Thursday. (

Orioles: C Matt Wieters (elbow) will play light catch on Friday for the first time since being shut down ... RHP Dylan Bundy (Tommy John surgery) threw three innings in an extended spring training game. (MASN Sports)

Rays: Will activate 2B Ben Zobrist (finger) off the disabled list on Friday.

Red Sox: 1B Mike Napoli (finger) could begin swinging a bat within the next few days ... RHP Clay Buchholz (knee) will not start throwing until Saturday at the earliest ... LHP Felix Doubront (shoulder) threw long-toss on Thursday (Boston Herald) ... 1B Ryan Lavarnway will have an MRI on Friday after leaving Thursday's game with a left wrist injury. Yankees: Teixeira (wrist) has inflammation and is day-to-day, the team announced ... OF Carlos Beltran (elbow) took 25 swings from each side of the plate off a tee and soft toss and felt fine, the team announced. He'll do the same thing again on Friday.


Blue Jays: 1B Edwin Encarnacion hit is 15th and 16th home runs of May on Thursday, leaving him one short of the all-time record for the month (17 by Barry Bonds in 2001).

Pirates: RHP Jason Grilli will return to the closer's role, manager Clint Hurdle announced. They had been easing him back into things after he came off the disabled list.

Red Sox: Will recalled RHP Rubby De La Rosa to start on Saturday in place of Buchholz. (Providence Journal)
