After initially hoping they'd be able to avoid a roster move, the Giants have announced that right-hander Matt Cain will go on the 15-day DL because of a strained right hamstring. Yusmeiro Petit will start in Cain's place against the Cardinals on Saturday. The Giants will recall outfielder Juan Perez to take Cain's spot on the active roster.

This season, the 29-year-old Cain has pitched to a 3.66 ERA and 2.29 K/BB ratio after eight starts. For his career, Cain owns an ERA+ of 118 across parts of 10 seasons.
