On Sunday, the Marlins sent their 39th overall pick un the upcoming MLB draft to the Pirates in exchange for right-hander Bryan Morris. The Pirates will now have four picks within the first 73 (nos. 24, 39, 64 and 73). The slot value for the newly acquired 39th pick is roughly $1.58 million.

As for Morris, the 27-year-old reliever has pitched to a 3.80 ERA and 1.17 K/BB ratio in 21 appearances this season. For his career, he owns an ERA+ of 104 in 93 2/3 innings.

The Marlins traded away their "competitive balance" draft pick -- a supplemental-round selection given to those teams who number among the 10 smallest-market and or the 10 lowest-revenue clubs in MLB. The competitive balance draft choices are the only picks that MLB allows teams to trade. However, only the original team holding the pick -- the Marlins in this instance -- can make such a trade.

The Marlins still have the nos. 2, 36 and 43 selections on Thursday.
