The Red Sox on Monday will add shortstop Stephen Drew to the active roster, reports's Jason Mastrodonato. In related moves, the Sox are expected to place outfielder Mike Carp on the DL with a broken foot, option third baseman Garin Cecchini back to the minors and recall outfielder Daniel Nava.

Drew, who was a core member of the Sox's 2013 championship team, was a free agent this past offseason, but found his market limited in part because signing him would require a team to forfeit a high draft pick. Drew signed a pro-rated one-year, $14.1-million deal with the Sox on May 20 -- i.e., in essence the qualifying offer that he turned down over the winter. He'll be paid a little more than $10 million for the season.

Drew, 31, is coming off a 2013 season in which he batted .253/.333/.443 with 13 homers in 124 games. He also enjoyed an outstanding year defensively. For his career, Drew owns an OPS+ of 98 across parts of eight major-league seasons.

Current shortstop Xander Bogaerts will slide over to third base in order to accommodate Drew.
