If the season ended today, that would be awful. However, if the season ended today, then Josh Donaldson of the Athletics would be my choice for American League MVP. This is because he's crushing ball this season (17 homers, 155 OPS+ coming into Sunday), and he's also one of the top defensive third basemen in all of baseball.

The latter merit of his was very much on display against the Orioles on Sunday (GameTracker). Please bear slack-jawed witness ...

On display: instincts, range to his right, throwing arm of utmost majesty, attention to craft.

I just checked, and your sense of baseball aesthetics is quite pleased right now.
