MLB Draft: First-round results | Five important things

The Minnesota Twins have agreed to terms with their first-round draft pick, fifth overall selection Nick Gordon, the club announced in a press release Monday. The slot value of the fifth pick for this season's draft was $3.851 million, and that's exactly what Gordon signed for, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Gordon additionally gets future collegiate tuition money, which is standard for high school signees.

The 18-year-old phenom is the son of former big-league closer Tom Gordon and the younger brother of Dodgers second baseman Dee Gordon. Nick is a natural shortstop with excellent all-around athleticism and great gap power. He's said to have legitimate All-Star potential.

Here's some video footage of the lefty-swinging Gordon in action:

Gordon hit .494 with 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 27 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 99 plate appearances as a high school senior this season. In 2013, he was named the Gatorade Florida Baseball Player of the Year as a junior.

The Twins have announced that Gordon will first participate in minicamp in Fort Myers before reporting to the Elizabethton Twins in the rookie-ball Appalachian League. Those Twins will begin their season June 19.
