MLB Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. spoke at a convention called the Maryland Municipal League in Ocean City, Md., Monday morning. He was the keynote speaker and in his speech he reportedly focused on "eight elements of perseverance" that aided with his illustrious Orioles baseball career.

That sounds awesome, but even better than that is his method of dealing with the media. Apparently he told the audience that when dealing with the media to always channel your inner Crash Davis. Via The Daily Record, here's what Ripken said to memorize and use to answer any question from a reporter:

“We've got to play them one day at a time.”

“I'm just happy to be here and I hope I can help the ball club.”

“I just want to give it my best shot, and the good lord willing, it will work out.”

Recognize that? Those were the exact three lines catcher Crash Davis (Kevin Costner) told young, star pitcher Nuke Laloosh (Tim Robbins) to memorize and use in the movie "Bull Durham." The report noted that Ripken "jokingly" said this, but I don't care. It's outstanding nonetheless. Great work, Cal.

The "Bull Durham" clip can be seen on YouTube, though there are a pair of NSFW f-bombs in there.
