Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has been on the DL since last Friday with an inflamed finger on his left hand. On Tuesday, he underwent exploratory surgery, and according to Rockies manager Walt Weiss, a "foreign body" was removed. There's no timetable for Gonzalez's return.
Here's more from MLB.com's Thomas Harding:
#Rockies trainer Keith Dugger says docs removed a small tissue or tumor which will be biopsied. These masses are common, usually benign— Thomas Harding (@harding_at_mlb) June 10, 2014
Obviously, let's very much hope it's nothing serious. Presumably, the team will update his status after the results of the biospy come back.
This season, the 28-year-old Gonzalez is batting .255/.307/.449 in 52 games. For his career, the two-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove winner owns an OPS+ of 123 across parts of seven major-league seasons.
