Weekend Series Rankings: Cardinals-Nationals at the top
The Cardinals have activated Matt Adams from the 15-day disabled list, the club announced Friday. As a corresponding move, they have sent highly-touted prospect Oscar Taveras back to Triple-A Memphis.
Adams, 25, is hitting .325/.337/.474 (121 OPS+) with 16 doubles, three homers and 17 RBI this season in 52 games. He's been on the shelf since May 29 due to a strained calf. He played in four minor-league rehab games for Memphis, going 3-for-15 with a double and two RBI.
Taveras, 21, homered in his debut, but overall is hitting .189/.225/.297 in 40 plate appearances for St. Louis. He entered the season considered as a top-three prospect in all of baseball and was hitting well in Triple-A before his initial promotion. We absolutely haven't seen the last of him.
As for the big-league Cardinals, they'll move Allen Craig back to right field and go with Adams at first.
The Cardinals open a three-game series against the Nationals in St. Louis Friday night.
